Blue Monday

20th Jan 2025

After our School Council members suggested having a colour day in school, we decided to mark 'Blue Monday'. This is a day for raising mental health awareness and self-care.

We had a little treat of hot-chocolate at snack time to show self-care before learning about the 5 steps to mental wellbeing: giving, connecting, learning, taking notice and being active.

P1&2 focused on giving to others. They participated in a 'Kindness chain' where they passed on a hug, high five, smile, thumbs up or a compliment.

P3&4 explored the importance of connecting with others. They learned about how pieces of Lego aren’t much fun on their own and how it’s much better to connect with those around you.

P5&6 paused to take notice of their surroundings. The pupils used the 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique to identify 5 things they could see, 4 things they could hear, 3 things they could feel, 2 things they could smell and 1 thing they could taste.

P7 focused on being active. After discussing how endorphins can boost our mood, P7 enjoyed getting active by moving and grooving to Just Dance!
